What Are Default Buttons, and When Should I Use Them?

This article explains what Default Buttons are and why a Business Workspace customer would use them: to guarantee a consistent CTA appears on pages where someone else — not the Workspace admin — is the one adding the video, via the access page rather than the Editor. It covers the setup steps in Advanced Configurations and the one critical rule: Default Buttons only work with access-page content, and are silently skipped if content comes through the Editor instead.

Default Buttons are a Business Workspace feature that guarantee a CTA button shows up on a page even when you're not the one adding the video.

Use case: you share a page's access link with someone else (an employee, a client, a partner) so they can record or upload their own video. A Default Button makes sure that page still has a working call-to-action, without you needing to build it in the Editor yourself.

Where it lives: Advanced Configurations.

⚠️ One rule to know: Default Buttons only apply to content added directly on the access page. If content is added through the Editor instead, Default Buttons are ignored.

The Customer Question

"What is the Default Buttons option I see under Advanced Configurations, and when would I actually use it?"

This is different from the standard CTA covered in What's a CTA in the Business Workspace? That article covers the Button toggle you set up yourself in the Page Editor. This article covers Default Buttons, a separate setting for pages where someone else adds the content.

That's what the access page is for: it's a simple "add your video" screen (Record or Upload, with a time limit) that someone can be sent to directly, without touching the full Page Editor.

The catch: if you're not the one adding the content, how do you guarantee a CTA button still shows up on that page? That's exactly what Default Buttons solves, it lets you pre-configure a button that will automatically appear on the page once the other person adds their video through the access page, even though you never touched the Editor for that specific page's content.

Default Buttons live under Advanced Configurations, alongside Tracking IDs, a separate settings panel from the main Page Editor.

Note: Personal Workspace accounts don't have access to buttons or images at all, video only. Default Buttons and standard CTA buttons are both Business Workspace features exclusively.

How to Set Up a Default Button

  1. Open Advanced Configurations.
  2. Toggle Default Buttons on.
  3. Click Add Button.
  4. Fill in:
    • Button Text — what the button says
    • Button URL — where it links (e.g., https://example.com)
    • Background Color and Text Color — to match your brand
  5. Click Add Button again if you want more than one.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Share the page's access link with whoever will be adding their video — your Default Button will appear once they do.

How This Differs from the Standard CTA Button

Default Buttons Standard CTA (Button block)
Who adds the video Someone else, via the access page You, via the Page Editor
Where it's set up Advanced Configurations Page Editor
Number of buttons Supports multiple buttons Supports multiple buttons
Action types URL only URL, email, phone, or text message
What to Check Next
  • Building the page yourself, start to finish? Use the standard CTA/Button toggle in the Page Editor instead. Default Buttons won't apply to content you add there.
  • Set up a Default Button but it's not showing up? Confirm the other person actually added their video through the access page, not the Editor.
  • Need an email, phone, or text destination instead of a URL? Default Buttons only support URL links, the standard CTA supports more action types.
When to Contact Support
  • Your Default Button is configured and the video was added via the access page, but the button still isn't appearing.
